OUR MISSION

The artÉmotion Summer Intensive is under the Artistic Direction of Ballet West First Soloist Allison DeBona and Ballet West Principal Rex Tilton. The program's inaugural year was 2015 in Cleveland, Ohio. In 2016 it grew to offer programs in both Cleveland and Detroit, Michigan.   We are thrilled to announce starting with our 2017 program the artÉmotion Summer Intensive will be in partnership with the Frederick Quinney Lawson Ballet West Academy Summer Intensive, official school of Ballet West.

Ballet West Academy Summer Intensive is a regimented six-week training program for pre-professional ballet students, under the Artistic Direction of Adam Sklute and directed by Peter LeBreton Merz.  The inaugural year of this strategic partnership between artÉmotion and Ballet West will see Allison DeBona and Rex Tilton leading a two-week choreographic workshop in Park City, Utah and a one-week adult ballet program in Salt Lake City, Utah. They will also supplement world-renowned guest instructors during the full six-week Ballet West program.  DeBona and Tilton will also continue their well-established Intensive in Cleveland, Ohio.

“In its 50 years, the Ballet West Academy has grown into an internationally-recognized training program for ballet,” said Peter LeBreton Merz, Ballet West Academy Director. “The addition of artÉmotion is a continued expansion of the world-class training opportunities offered to our students.”

DeBona and Tilton have operated artÉmotion for three years and expanded the program to several cities. “Expanding our reach to Salt Lake--our home base--is an organic and natural growth plan,” said DeBona. “artÉmotion was launched with a mission to shape students into multidimensional dancers and to help them find their voice as artists. I know Peter Merz and Adam Sklute are both equally dedicated to this undertaking.”

“I’m thoroughly pleased to have Allison and Rex join the Ballet West Summer Intensive this year,” said CEO and Artistic Director Adam Sklute. “I’ve watched with great interest as artÉmotion has steadily grown due to their talent and tenacity. They are a perfect addition to our Summer Intensive.”

The artÉmotion Summer Intensive shapes students into multidimensional dancers by asking them to stretch beyond their physical abilities and help them find their inner voices as artists. Our mission is facilitated by our curriculum. Students of artÉmotion will explore their artistry and technique in tandem. No movement without a purpose, without a unique story.

TECHNIQUE

Students will learn from instructors trained in a multitude of classical and contemporary techniques.

ARTISTRY

Students will be asked to connect with their personal experiences to evoke meaning behind their steps. No movement without a purpose.

DISCIPLINE

Our faculty will encourage students to push beyond their comfort zones physically and mentally to reach their fullest potential as dancers but most importantly, artists.
